  • Marco Verratti signed for Paris Saint-Germain in 2012 as a 20-year-old defender from Italy
  • Verratti reached a milestone against RC Lens in his 400th appearance for the French giants
  • RC Lens stunned PSG over the Ligue 1 leaders to reduce the gap at the top to just four points

Marco Verratti is an ever-dependable presence in the Paris Saint-Germain squad.

While not the first name many think of when the French club is mentioned, Verratti has achieved an incredible milestone at PSG.

With his appearance in PSG’s fixture against Lens, Verratti became only the second player in the club’s history to play 400 games for the French side.

Only Jean-Marc Pilorget has played more games for the Parisians. Pilorget was a defender who played 435 games for PSG.

In addition to his 400 games, Verratti has scored 11 goals and registered 61 assists for the team.

He signed for PSG in 2012 from the Italian side Pescara, and recently extended his contract with the French side that will see him continue until 2026.

Sadly for Verratti, his 400th appearance for the team did not go as planned, as PSG suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of RC Lens.

Lens won the fixture 3-1 as the Ligue 1 leaders looked lost without Lionel Messi and Neymar. Neymar is currently suspended after picking up a red card in his side's previous game, while Messi is yet to return from the World Cup break.

Ligue 1: Lens stuns PSG

PSG lost for the first time in any competition since March 20 last year, when they were defeated 3-1 at RC Lens on Sunday.

Lois Openda scored one and set up another as Lens, who have only lost once in Ligue 1 this season, closed the gap on PSG at the top to four points after 17 rounds.

PSG's last loss was more than nine months ago when they fell 3-0 at Monaco in Ligue 1, although that still left them 12 points clear at the top of the table.
