Lionel Messi has described 2022 as a year he will "never forget" after finally getting his hands on the most-desired trophy by any footballer, the World Cup.

He finally won the FIFA World Cup after inspiring his beloved Argentina to dethrone France as world champions.
Reflecting on how the year under review unfolded, Messi first underlined the value of winning the World Cup.

"A year I will never forget has ended," Messi wrote in his Instagram post as quoted by GOAL. "The dream I always chased finally came true.
He also took time to appreciate his"wonderful family" and "friends" in his New Year's message, per Mirror.
"But that wouldn't be worth anything either if I couldn't share it with a wonderful family, the best one can have, and friends who always supported me and didn't let me stay on the floor every time I fell.
The people's GOAT did not forget to acknowledge the role of his followers in what was an incredible 2022 for him.
"I also want to have a very special memory for all the people who follow me, it's amazing to be able to share this path with all of you.
