Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has congratulated his compatriot Karim Benzema on winning the Ballon d'Or for the first time.
Benzema became the fifth Frenchman player to clinch the coveted individual award after edging competition from Robert Lewandowski, Sadio Mane and Kevin De Bruyne.
The 34-year-old enjoyed a stunning 2021-22 campaign, scoring 44 goals in 46 games across all competitions as he helped Real Madrid to win the Champions League and La Liga.
And Benzema’s Les Bleus teammate Mbappe, who came in 6th for the Ballon d'Or, sent a message on his Instagram story, writing:

The former Lyon forward has becomes only the second player aside from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to win the award since 2008.
Benzema's Real Madrid team-mate Luka Modric won the prize in 2018.
