  • Neymar and Kylian Mbappe had a brief discussion on who was to take the penalty against Monaco on Sunday evening
  • Mbappe is the club's first-choice penalty taker but allowed his teammate to take that particular one to even the scores
  • The discussion was peaceful, unlike the incident a fortnight ago where the two stars appeared to clash

The choice of Paris Saint-Germain's penalty taker has brought with it widespread controversy. Two of the club's top stars, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, openly clashed for a spot kick recently against Montpellier.

It was thereafter decided that Mbappe would be the club's first-choice penalty taker, with Neymar stepping up should the club get another penalty in the game.

However, this plan was not followed over the weekend during PSG's clash against Monaco at the Parc Des Princes. The French giants were already trailing to a Kevin Volland ruthless left-footed finish when Neymar won a penalty.

But unlike the argument witnessed a few weeks back, Mbappe did not stop Neymar from taking the penalty. The Brazilian, whose record from the spot is near perfect, converted his effort and Mbappe joined in the celebrations as PSG rescued a point.

So, did the plan change? Will Neymar be taking the penalties henceforth? The answer is no. Head coach Christophe Galtier explained after the game that the two discussed and agreed on who will take the setpiece, as Sport Bible reports.

In this match, Kylian Mbappé was the number 1 penalty taker and Neymar was number 2. Ney made the decision to take the penalty after talking with Mbappé. Kylian congratulated him. That’s how it should be.

PSG's perfect record ended, but Neymar's record was enough to ensure that their unbeaten start to the season continued.

Kylian Mbappe produces miss of the season from six yards out

In the same game, Sports Brief reported that Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe shocked the world when he missed an open chance to score from less than six yards out.

Mbappe has built a reputation for himself as a proven goal poacher and it, therefore, came as a surprise when his effort only hit the post and agonizingly went back into play

It was a tough night for PSG as a resolute Monaco side frustrated their efforts for the better part of the evening. The game ended with a one-all scoreline, bringing to an end Christophe Galtier's perfect start to the season.
