Paris Saint-Germain attacker, Lionel Messi has won another distinguished accolade for the first time in his illustrious career, following his World Cup victory with Argentina.

Messi steered La Albiceste to defeat France in the World Cup final via penalties, scoring two goals in regular time while fellow teammate Kylian Mbappe netted a hat-trick for the losing team.

The 35-year-old contributed with seven goals and three assists, starring in the tournament as he scooped the Golden Boot award.

French media outlet L'Equipe has honoured the Argentine genius with another award following his heroics in Qatar.

SportsBIBLE reports that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has swooped the Champion of Champions award. He fended off competition from PSG teammate Mbappe, F1 star Max Verstappen and NBA All-Star Stephen Curry.

Messi amassed an astonishing 808 points to win the award, while his club colleague Mbappe finished runner-up with 381 points.

Rafael Nadal was third after scoring 285 points, while basketball star Stephen Curry made it into the top ten.

Messi named IFFHS best player

Messi has been named the 'World's Best Player' for 2022 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

He beat competition from PSG teammate Mbappe, whom Messi beat to the World Cup trophy, and current Ballon d'Or holder Karim Benzema to win the accolade.

Aside from edging the aforementioned names for the accolade, Messi was also named winner of the IFFHS' award for 'World's Best International Goal Scorer 2022'.

PSG boss dispels Messi-Mbappe friction

Sports Brief earlier reported that Christophe Galtier, the gaffer of PSG, explained that France international Mbappe has congratulated Messi for winning the World Cup.

It was a tough day for Mbappe and his teammates in the French national team, as they were beaten by Argentina on penalties in the final of the 2022 edition in Qatar.

According to the reports by GOAL and Marca, Galtier explained there is no trouble between the two stars both during and after the tournament.
