  • Thulani Hlatshwayo joining forces with Orlando Pirates was meant to be a match made in heaven
  • However, it turned into a nightmarish experience for the defender, the Buccaneers and the supporters
  • Hlatshwayo has graciously come forward to talk about his time with the club he supported

Thulani Hlatshwayo will not remember his time with Orlando Pirates fondly.

He joined his childhood club in 2020 after Bidvest Wits went out of business in what was supposed to be a match made in narrative heaven. Unfortunately, this did not turn out the way all involved parties hoped for.

Having joined SuperSport United in the middle of 2022 to rejoin forces with Gavin Hunt, 'Tyson' told IOL of his experience with the Buccaneers:

"I had never imagined that I'd find myself in that sort of situation because if you look at my football career, starting from my days at Ajax (Cape Town), Bidvest Wits, and the national team, I've always been a player that plays 25+ games a season.

"I have always been there defending and scoring goals throughout all those years up until 2020 and that situation was fairly new to me as a player."

Blame by the fans was either fairly or unfairly placed on Hlatshwayo regarding the numerous mistakes that the Pirates defence made.

He said in response:

"I'm not one to be on social media a lot but the people around me are, so sometimes I'd find out through them that things had been written about me, and knowing the situation I was in, I knew it probably wasn't great."

Thulani Hlatshwayo leaves Orlando Pirates, reunites with former coach Gavin Hunt at SuperSport United

Thulani Hlatshwayo and Gavin Hunt have joined forces once again.

The defender was announced as Gavin Hunt's first signing since being reappointed as coach of SuperSport United last week. Hlatshwayo was captain of the Bidvest Wits team that was coached by Hunt when the club won the 2016/2017 ABSA Premiership title.

In their time together at Wits, the duo of Hunt and Hlatshwayo also led the Students to the Telkom Knockout trophy in 2017. The team defeated Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena teased by Teko Modise, Happy Jele and DJ Naves about 'hot' photo

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena made sure that he is an option in the modelling world.

The 35-year-old Mokwena shared on his Instagram account a picture of himself bare-chested while donning a stylish jacket. This was part of a photo shoot for Nounouche magazine.

Naturally, he had to take his lumps together with the praise that came his way.
