There has been a debate about the validity of Erasmus' goal in the eighth minute of the match. The red-hot Saleng made mincemeat of Aubrey Modiba on the goal-line of Sundowns' box before feeding the former Brazilians' striker with the easiest of crosses to head in.

It appeared that the ball was out when Saleng controlled to keep it in play. SuperSport's legendary commentator Mark Gleeson was convinced that it indeed should have been a goalkick to the visitors.

However, upon a closer look, the whole circumference of the ball was not over the line, which made Pirates' opener a legitimate one.

It appears that SuperSport pundit Andile 'Ace' Ncobo will dig into this juicy morsel of controversy on Monday' night's episode of Extra Time.

Referee escorted from field after being confronted by players in Mamelodi Sundowns vs Marumo Gallants match

Unpleasant scenes blighted the DStv Premiership encounter between Mamelodi Sundowns and Marumo Gallants last night.

The defending DStv Premiership champions defeated Marumo Gallants courtesy of Sphelele Mkhulise's 27th-minute goal for a 1-0 win.

Marumo, who sank to last place after the loss, had a last-minute goal correctly disallowed for offside, but the visitors were furious at the decision. Many of the losing players surrounded the referee when he blew for full-time, forcing security officials to enter the field and escort the match officials to safety.

Marumo coach Dan Malesela refused to comment on the offside decision, while Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena said he "feared being fined by the league" if he discussed it.
