FootballBucs Legend Daine Klate Sparks Wildfire of Rumours That Benni McCarthy Will Be the Next Orlando Pirates Coach
- Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Daine Klate set the cat among the pigeons with comments he made during an SAFM interview last night
- Klate, who was speaking to journalist Thabiso Mosia, said that he would gladly work with ex Buccaneers teammate Benni McCarthy was he to take over at the club
- The silver-ladden legend is currently working his way through the early part of his coaching career
Daine Klate has added more weight to the rumours that Benni McCarthy could be the next Orlando Pirates.
This past season, Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids have been manning the helm at the Buccaneers in an interim capacity. This has not been a particularly successful stint, with Pirates failing to win a single trophy while also failing to qualify for any African competitions, which compromised their already shaky standing in terms of employment.
According to The Citizen, Klate was speaking to Thabiso Mosia on SAFM last night when he said:
“I have a soft spot for Pirates, if Benni asks me to come, I’ll gladly accept it. This is something we spoke about when we were still playing. I love Pirates, I supported them as a kid and that’s why I ended up playing for them.”
Goal revealed that Klate currently has a UEFA B coaching licence and that he remains a Pirates fan.
During his glittering career, he won 14 different titles at SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits. While at Pirates, he won consecutive Trebles, with McCarthy joining Pirates for the 2011-12 season when they won one together.
Fadlu Davids speaks about his and Mandla Ncikazi's Orlando Pirates future after a trophyless unsuccessful season
Orlando Pirates' 2021-22 campaign will be considered a failure, with co-coach Fadlu Davids giving his thoughts on this.
As reported on Sports Brief, the Buccaneers failed to win a trophy this season, also failing to qualify for any African competition next season.
This was the second consecutive season that the cabinet will remain empty in Parktown, missing the last opportunity to acquire silverware in the CAF Confederations Cup final against RS Berkane nearly two weeks ago.
