FootballFadlu Davids Speaks About His and Mandla Ncikazi's Orlando Pirates Future After Trophyless Unsuccessful Season
- Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids expressed disappointment about the team's failed 2021-22 season in South Africa and abroad
- Not only did the Buccaneers fail to win a trophy, but they failed to finish on the podium in the DStv Premiership race, but they also failed to qualify for any competition
- He and fellow co-coach have been under scrutiny since taking over last August, with sections of Pirates calling for their sacking from the get-go
Orlando Pirates' 2021-22 campaign will be considered a failure, with co-coach Fadlu Davids giving his thoughts on this.
The Buccaneers failed to win a trophy this season, also failing to qualify for any African competition next season. This was the second consecutive season that the cabinet will remain empty in Parktown, missing the last opportunity to acquire silverware in the CAF Confederations Cup final against RS Berkane nearly two weeks ago.
According to Soccer Laduma, Davids described it as a disappointing, saying:
"Of course we are disappointed with the way things happened this season. We've got to be critical of ourselves, in relation to we manage things. Coming back to CAF and having six draws.
We have to be critical on how we can do better and manage these competitions moving forward, especially when you have busy schedule. We must be able to manage situations and compete domestically and not only that, but compete with Mamelodi Sundowns... That's what matters."
Underlining Pirates' toothlessness, statisticians OptaJabu tweeted that this was the second-worst win rate the club had in a season since the Premier Soccer League began, only managing to bag 10.
Goal reported that Pirates fans flocked to social media demanding his and Mandla Ncikazi's sacking, with Davids responding evasively:
"It is not about the future. We must be positive and believe. We have to submit a report on what is needed at the end of the season, what is needed to close the gap with Sundowns. We have to be able to compete on all fronts, not only go to the final but win it.
Mamelodi Sundowns stuck with problem in which loaned out players are struggling for game time elsewhere
FootballSuperSport United sneaks into Top 8 at the expense of lacklustre Orlando Pirates in DStv Premiership
SuperSport United will be playing in next season's MTN 8 competition.
As reported by Sports Brief, this is after Matsatsantsa easily overcame a feeble Orlando Pirates 2-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Monday night. Fortune Makaringe's unfortunate own goal and Gampani Lungu's penalty - from a Happy Jele foul that saw him receive a red card - were enough for the victory.
The Buccaneers will finish the season in sixth place, missing the opportunity to play in the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup in the feeblest manner possible.
