FootballOrlando Pirates Starlet Boitumelo Radiopane Breaks DStv Diski Challenge Record Amid Calls for His Promotion
- Despite Pirates blowing what was once a one-horse race in the DStv Diski Challenge, something good came out of the season
- Promising marksman Boitumelo Radiopane broke the record for the most goals in a Premier Soccer League Reserves season
- Throughout the campaign, there have been calls from sections of the Buccaneers' support base asking for him to be promoted to the senior team
Orlando Pirates striker Boitumelo Radiopane is the toast of the town after an outstanding DStv Diski Challenge campaign.
The "Radio Man" hit the back of the net 24 times in a season that promised so much for the young Bucs but delivered nothing in the end. This tally became the new record since the establishment of the Diski Challenge back in 2014.
According to The South African, Siphesihle Ngcobo of Maritzburg United, Thulani Mnini of Chippa United, Tinoko Sithole of Swallows FC as well as Mduduzi Shabalala of Kaizer Chiefs all finished on 13 goals each.
Radiopane has impressed Pirates fans who got the opportunity to watch him in action terrorising defenders and goalkeepers. Many called for him to be included in the senior side as soon as is possible noting his uncommon nose for goals as a South African striker.
As for Pirates as a whole, it was an anti-climactic ending to the campaign, finishing third on 60 points behind SuperSport United (62 points) and new champions Stellenbosch FC (64 points). Amazingly, at one point, Pirates were six points ahead of Stellenbosch and 12 ahead of United with 10 matches left in the season.
