FootballOrlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana Star Thabang Monare Reportedly Set to Be Leaving the Buccaneers
- Another key player is believed to be on the verge of leaving Orlando Pirates if a contract extension does not materialise
- Thabang Monare and the club are currently in a contractual deadlock with his stay at the club set to end in June
- Several clubs, including the Buccaneers' main rivals, are believed to be monitoring the situation in case nothing materialises
With Gabadinho Mhango confirmed to be on the way out of Orlando Pirates, another star man could follow him out of the door.
Rumours are that midfielder Thabang Monare's stay with the Buccaneers is coming to an end. The 32-year-old is currently locked in contract extension negotiations, with the club believed to not be in a hurry to continue with his services.
According to a Kick Off source, there is only one month left on his current contract, which suggests that perhaps his two-year stint with the team might be at an end. Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Royal AM and Amazulu are believed to be monitoring the situation with interest.
The source said:
"Monare is still yet to extend with Orlando Pirates. It's a huge concern with just one month remaining on his current deal at Pirates. There are three clubs showing huge interest in signing him. Remaining at Pirates is believed to be his first preference, but the club is delaying the offer of a new contract."
The Citizen also reported that reserve goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands was set to hang up his gloves and boots at the end of the season. He was one of five players said to be out of a contract at the end of June as per Goal.
The other four were goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane, Moroka Swallows loanee Austin Muwowo, Siphesihle Ndlovu and injury-plagued stalwart Happy Jele.
The writing is on the wall as Malawi star Gabadinho Mhango prepares for his Orlando Pirates exit
In what might be the most unsurprising transfer news, Gabadinho Mhango's unhappy union with Orlando Pirates is reportedly coming to an end.
Adel Amrouche expresses interest in Kaizer Chiefs job, Arthur Zwane also keen on being made permanent manager
FootballAs reported by Sports Brief, Mhango has been on the periphery of the match day squads all season since co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids took over from Josef Zinnbauer at the beginning of the season.
Ironically, during his exclusion, Mhango was outstanding for Malawi at the 2021 African Cup of Nations, which has made his non-inclusion more perplexing.
