FootballThe Writing Is on the Wall as Malawi Star Gabadinho Mhango Prepares for His Orlando Pirates Exit
- It appears that the writing is on the wall when it comes to Gabadinho Mhango's stay at Orlando Pirates
- The latest international report is that the Malawian striker has called it quits sailing with the Buccaneers
- This is on the back of a frustrating season for him, where his excellent performances at the 2021 African Cup of Nations did not have a bearing on his conclusion exclusion at Pirates
In what might be the most unsurprising transfer news, Gabadinho Mhango's unhappy union with Orlando Pirates is reportedly coming to an end.
Mhango has been on the periphery of the match day squads all season since co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids took over from Josef Zinnbauer at the beginning of the season. Ironically, during his exclusion, Mhango was outstanding for Malawi at the 2021 African Cup of Nations, which has made his non-inclusion more perplexing.
Now, according to Soccer Laduma by way of mwnation.com, the 29-year-old Mhango has called it quits with Pirates, saying:
“We had a meeting recently and both parties agreed by mutual consent to part ways. It is a huge relief to me because I was hardly enjoying game time. It has been a stressful season for me and I can’t wait to move on and, hopefully, this will be a new dawn for my career.”
According to Transfermarkt, Mhango has only made 10 appearances for the team this season, providing just one assist. Since joining the Buccaneers from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits in the 2019/20 season, he has scored 23 goals in 71 appearances.

As reported by Sports Brief, Mhango grabbed international headlines with his performances for Malawi at the African Cup of Nations but has not been given a chance to emulate that at club level for Orlando Pirates.
