Orlando Pirates found guilty by Disciplinary Committee, will face sanctions over Tim Sukazi incident
FootballOrlando Pirates Handed Punishment by Premier Soccer League for Mistreatment of TS Galaxy's Tim Sukazi
- The Premier Soccer League has handed Orlando Pirates what appears to be a light punishment for bringing the game into disrepute
- The league's disciplinary committee fined the club R100 000 after finding the club guilty of 'unreasonably' denying the TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi entry to Orlando Stadium
- However, the punishment will be a suspended one, meaning that such an offense cannot be repeated over the next 12 months
Orlando Pirates will breathe a sigh of relief at the punishment handed to them by the Premier Soccer League's disciplinary committee.
Last week, the club was found guilty by the committee for the unsavoury incident last December which saw TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi being manhandled by Pirates officials at the Orlando Stadium. For this transgression, the club was fined R100 000 for 'unreasonably' denying Sukazi into the venue.
According to Soccer Laduma, PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu said in a statement:
"Orlando Pirates was fined a monitory amount of R100 000, which amount is suspended for a period of 12 months on condition that during the period of suspension, Orland Pirates is not found guilty of the same offence."
The club will also have to pay for the legal costs incurred by the league for holding the four disciplinary committee hearings needed to settle the matter. As something of a final insult, Pirates will also have to write an apology to the PSL, SAFA, CAF, FIFA and sponsors as well as the football fraternity for bringing the game into disrepute.
Sukazi and Galaxy will savour the latest development, having turned Pirates over 1-0 in a DStv Premiership match on Monday.
