FootballFormer Bafana Midfielder Thabo Mngomeni Has Advice for Orlando Pirates, Criticises Foreign Coaches
- Thabo Mngomeni advised his former side Orlando Pirates to learn from champions Mamelodi Sundowns
- The former Bafana Bafana midfielder said that South African football lost its identity when foreign coaches were brought in
- Mngomeni was a prominent feature of the 2002 Bafana World Cup team and also starred for Orlando Pirates
Ex-Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates midfielder, Thabo Mngomeni has dished out advice to his former side while also criticizing the role use of foreign coaches.
Mngomeni was a prominent part of the Bafana team that competed at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He also played for numerous local clubs including Manning Rangers, Hellenic and Orlando Pirates.
Speaking to KickOff, the former Bafana midfielder said that Orlando Pirates should learn from what Mamelodi Sundowns were currently doing and stick to that game plan. He added that Pirates needed to show faith in their joint-caretaker coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids and give them time to grow at the club.
Mngomeni also suggested that former Chippas United manager Dan Malesela should join the coaching team at the Buccaneers, Sport24 reported.
Speaking of the current coaching staff, Mngomeni said that they must be given enough time like foreign coaches are.
"Just like these useless foreign coaches who are always brought here and given ample chances. It's also good for the country because the Pirates coaches are local and they have proven that if people are given a chance something good can happen.
"Even their working relationship will start to grow, a bond is being formed between the two of them and the players," Mngomeni was quoted as saying.
While advocating for Malesela to join the team, Mngomeni stated that having three coaches worked for Mamelodi Sundowns, so it could work.
"Since the overseas coaches came with their papers we lost the identity of our style of play. Nowadays Pirates are playing this way, Sundowns this way that proves there is a lot of confusion, then Bafana started dropping in the rankings.'

FootballFormer Kaizer Chiefs player Junior Khanye hails signing of attacker Surprise Ralani
Mamelodi Sundowns' move to attract the signature of experienced attacker Bradley "Surprise" Ralani has not escaped the praise of former Kaizer Chiefs player turned football analyst Junior Khanye, Sports Brief reported.
Khanye was quick to point out that the move will benefit both the player and the Pretoria giants after the 34-year-old was unveiled as the Brazilians' latest acquisition at the start of the January transfer window.
The South African reported that the signing of Ralani could spell doom for Gastón Sirino and his lack of game time at the Loftus Versfeld outfit. According to former Downs midfielder Brent Carelse, Sirino's relatively dry spell this term will only be exacerbated.
