  • Victor Osimhen becomes Napoli’s first-ever player to score in seven straight Italian Serie A matches
  • Osimhen was on the scoresheet as the Partenopei defeated Sassuolo to go 18 points clear on the standings
  • The striker takes his league tally to 18 goals this season as Napoli inch closer to the Scudetto

Nigerian international Victor Osimhen continued with his blistering scoring form this season as he netted in Napoli’s 2-0 away win at Sassuolo.

It is now the first time that a Napoli player will score in seven straight Serie A games in the three points for a win era (since 1994/95)

The 24-year-old has now scored 18 league goals this season and needs four more goals to George Weah’s goals in the Italian topflight.

After Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has given Napoli the lead in the 12th minute, Osimhen made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute.

The former Lille of France striker received a pass and found his way past two defenders before firing home from the tightest of angles.

Osimhen was substituted in the 84th minute after he appeared injured, and the manager of the squad Luciano Spalletti expressed concerns.

Spalletti told DAZN via Football Italia:

“For what was assessed there straight away, it doesn’t look like anything special, just a bit of tiredness because he (Osimhen) can’t spare himself.
“When he has this urge to push, he stretches and does these runs where you don’t know where he'll end up.
“He says he can hardly do it anymore and will go two metres, then those two metres become two hundred because he goes after everyone.”

The win took Napoli – now on 62 points – 18 points clear of second-placed Inter Milan in the league table.

Zola hails Osimhen

Sports Brief earlier reported that former Chelsea star, Gianfranco Zola hailed Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen for his impressive performances this season, claiming the Blues will find it hard to sign him

The former Lille strongman has been the player of the moment this season in Serie A, where scoring goals has become a regular practice for the youngster.

Interestingly, Napoli are enjoying the top of the league table, with the team tipped to lift the title at the end of the season.
