Nigerian international Victor Osimhen has explained why he still wears a mask despite having recovered from a cheekbone injury.
The Napoli striker says he still wears a mask just to protect his face, adding that he feels comfortable wearing the protection.
Osimhen had a clash of heads with Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar back in November 2022 and it was confirmed that he had fractured his eye socket and cheekbone.
He was out of action for more than two months and was ruled out of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

The 23-year-old returned to action in January and has been using the mask since then, even though reports claim he would use it for a short period.
Now, the striker has said he still wears it for protection. He said, as per Napoli Magazine via Soccernet.
“The injury was heavy, that was the reason for the operation and the long period in which I was out.
“I really don’t think about removing the mask for now. The mental aspect has nothing to do with it. The mask is physical protection and I wear it I keep it. It’s not a superstitious thing, I’m more relaxed like this.
“I protect my face better by wearing it and I don’t take it off”.
Osimhen’s mask is made of carbon fibre. Despite its protective feature, it is very light. Since he started using it, he has been in great form, scoring goals aplenty for club and country.
