Serie A has received a lucrative €138 million offer to host the event in the country for the next six years under a new format. Long-time adversaries AC Milan and Inter Milan will clash in the Middle East on January 18th as they look for their first honours this season.
Under the new format, the Supercoppa Final Four will include Serie A champions and runners-up in the previous season and Coppa Italia finalists. The four teams will then play a one-legged semi-final and the final.
According to reports, the Supercoppa winners will then face Saudi Super Cup winners.
With a €138 million budget for the four teams, each will receive €23 million net per season with travel and accommodation being catered for by the host country. The amount is three times more than what Serie A provides, which is €8 million.
The Middle East country has in recent years drawn strong criticism from fans and players about its human rights record. Still, they have managed to host huge events like boxing, football, Formula 1 and even the WWE.
