Now, 25 years later, another group of musicians has paid tribute to the current Manchester United forwards coach. Cape Town rappers YoungstaCPTY and Shaney Jay have joined forces to release 'Benni McCarthy'.
The song is a straightforward tribute to the Bafana Bafana legend, also chronicling the path that he took to get where he is on the world football stage.

Benni McCarthy mourns AKA
As the continent comes to grips with the slaying of one of its finest ever hip-hop artists AKA, another great export to the world paid tribute to him.
Manchester United first-team coach Benni McCarthy expressed his sadness after the murder of Kiernan Forbes, aptly nicknamed AKA. He was shot dead in Durban, with his friend Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane also dying in the shocking attack.
McCarthy and Forbes had recently become friends, bonding over the Beautiful Game. It helped that AKA was a staunch Red Devils supporter, and had always expressed joy that a compatriot was now playing a big part in the club's resurgence under Erik Ten Hag.
