Manchester United January signing Wout Weghorst has opened his goal account for the Red Devils.

With Anthony Martial sidelined for the clash through injury, Erik ten Hag called upon the Dutchman to lead the attack line at City Ground.

Marcus Rashford had earlier on opened the scoring for the Red Devils with a solo finish before Weghorst doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time.

The Netherlands international pounced on a rebound after Antony's effort had been parried away.

As for Weghorst, he stuck out his legs before he whipped a powerful strike across the keeper and into the left-hand side of the net to make it 2-0 for Man United.

When did Weghorst join Man United?

Weghorst sealed a stunning move to Man United on loan from Burnley earlier in the month.

The striker was initially in the books of Besiktas where he was billed to spend the season temporarily.

However, the abrupt departure of Cristiano Ronaldo forced United into the market in search of a replacement and finally landed the Dutchman on loan.

Weghorst is expected to spend the remainder of the campaign with the Red Devils before he returns to his parent club.

Tuanzebe spotted in training

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Manchester United centre-back Axel Tuanzebe looks set to make a return to action soon after months on the sidelines.

Tuanzebe has not played a game for a year now, with his last appearance coming back in January 2022.

At the time, the defender was plying his trade in the Serie A with Napoli where he was on loan from Manchester United.

The 25-year-old had come on as a substitute for Napoli during their Coppa Italia loss to Fiorentina when he picked up a back injury.
