  • Manchester United will be without Casemiro when they play Arsenal in the EPL
  • Casemiro is currently suspended after picking up a fifth yellow card this season
  • Erik ten Hag believes his charges can beat the Gunners even with their star out

Erik ten Hag has made a defiant statement about Casemiro missing Manchester United's trip to Arsenal on Sunday, January 22.

The Red Devils will be without their anchorman during the vital Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium, after he picked up a yellow card against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

The former Real Madrid midfielder has played a central role in United's impressive run of form in recent weeks, with his significant contribution boosting his side's title bid.

Casemiro was part of United's squad that settled for a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace, where Michael Olise struck at stoppage time to deny the visitors the three points.

However, United's first disastrous moment came 10 minutes before Olise's equaliser, when Casemiro clattered into Wilfried Zaha, according to The Mirror.

The Brazilian's tackle on the Ivorian earned him a yellow card - his fifth of the season.

That means therefore, that the five-time Champions League winner will not be part of United's team that will take the trip to the Emirates Stadium.

Ten Hag on Casemiro's booking

However, Ten Hag has dismissed the significance of Casemiro's yellow card, with the Red Devils boss insisting his side has what it takes to beat the Gunners without the Brazilian.

According to the Dutchman, his charges are better placed to see off the league leaders in the absence of Casemiro, just like they did back in September.

"The last time we beat Arsenal without Casemiro, so this time we need to do the same," Mirror UK quoted ten Hag saying.

United are thus far the only team that has beaten Arsenal in the Premier League this season, in 18 of the fixtures the Gunners have played.

Casemiro is better than Partey

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on former England and Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand believing Casemiro is a better player than Thomas Partey.

The two midfielders have been in the news for all the right reasons, following their starring roles for their respective clubs in the ongoing season.

Fans on social media have been divided over who the best defensive midfielder in the English Premier League is, with Casemiro and Partey the names popping up most.
