Manchester United talisman Marcus Rashford has confirmed he was benched by manager Erik ten Hag as punishment for missing a team meeting.
Ten Hag had initially revealed he had benched his star man for 'internal disciplinary reasons', but declined to comment further.
Despite starting on the bench, Rashford’s services were required immediately after half time, as he was brought on following the interval.
It proved to be the decisive tactical tweak by the Dutch boss, as the England forward ended up netting the winner

After the game, the match-winner spoke on BT Sport, where he openly admitted it was partly his fault he was benched.
Goal reports that Rashford said he overslept and subsequently missed a crucial team meeting; something that did not sit well with his manager.
"It’s the team rules and a mistake that can happen," he said. "Disappointed not to play, but I understand the decision. I’m happy we managed to win the game."
Despite the ‘disciplinary issues’, there is no overstating Rashford’s importance for Man United at the moment.
This is the second successive game in which he has scored for his side since the return of club football, after netting a few days ago against Nottingham Forest.
United are back in action on Tuesday against Bournemouth, with Rashford highly likely to start.
