Man United icon Paul Scholes believes his former side can see off Barcelona, when the two European giants lock horns in the Europa League.

United landed a fixture against Barcelona in the knock-out playoffs of the second-tier European competition, after they finished second in their pool behind Real Sociedad.

Barca meanwhile, were relegated to the Europa League following a woeful campaign in the group stages of the Champions League.

The Spanish giants finished third behind Bayern Munich and Inter Milan in their Champions League group, to set up a mouthwatering clash against the Red Devils.

Paul Scholes makes his prediction

Scholes, a former Man United midfielder, has now backed the Erik ten Hag-tutored side to come out on top in their blockbuster fixture against Barcelona.

However, the former England international quickly suggested that the fixture won't be easy for United.

"I would love them to draw Barcelona to get the juices flowing and get a good atmosphere. I think they are capable of beating Barcelona," Scholes told BT Sports.

"On the other hand, they are a really good team. As much as I want to play them (Barcelona), they are probably the team you want to avoid," he added.

Meanwhile, Juventus are scheduled to face Nantes and Roma battles RB Salzburg in the other fixtures of the knockouts.
