Declan Rice also had a chance to restore parity at stoppage time, but the Spanish goalkeeper was in place to fend off the threat.

The match eventually ended in a 1-0 win for United, but fans were quick to take note of de Gea's influence in the match.

De Gea to miss World Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported David de Gea is set to miss the World Cup after he was snubbed by Spain boss Luis Enrique at the naming of his 55-man provisional squad.

The Manchester United goalkeeper missed the squad, which had five goalkeepers, including three from the Premier League.

The 31-year-old has 45 caps with Spain and with top goalkeepers coming up for the European nation, he is considered a relic of a bygone era.
