However, it has now emerged that some Man United fans were unable to withstand the embarrassment as they opted to leave the Etihad Stadium with the Red Devils trailing 4-0.

According to The Mirror, many of the fans who sported their red shirts could be seen leaving the stadium after Foden extended City's lead.

Man United legend Gary Neville, who was appearing on Sky Sports as a pundit, justified the reaction, claiming the supporters have evidently had enough.

City, meanwhile, went on to score two more goals through Foden and Haaland.

United earned their consolation via summer arrival Antony and Anthony Martial, who came off the bench to score twice.

Ten Hag reveals why Ronaldo did not feature in the Manchester derby

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Erik ten Hag has opened up on his decision not to sub on Cristiano Ronaldo during the Manchester derby.

With United in dire need of more firepower upfront, many had hoped Ten Hag would introduce Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, the Red Devils boss overlooked the veteran striker and instead brought on Anthony Martial, who has been out injured for weeks.

Speaking on his decision not to sub on Ronaldo, ten Hag said it was out of respect for the Portuguese talisman.
