Rio Ferdinand has backed Bruno Fernandes to replace Harry Maguire as the Manchester United captain.
Fernandes was temporarily handed the captaincy role during United's clash with Liverpool on Monday night, August 22.
The Portuguese midfielder was afforded the opportunity to captain the side after Erik ten Hag resolved to bench Maguire for the Old Trafford cracker.
According to Metro UK, the Red Devils were in the best form of their lives as they staged an epic performance to down the Reds 2-1.

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were particularly impressive at the heart of defence, with their perfect partnership raising concerns about the chances of Maguire finding his way back into the team.
Rio Ferdinand wants Harry Maguire replaced as captain
Ferdinand now contends it is about time Maguire is replaced as the United captain, backing Fernandes for the role.
According to the former England international, handing Fernandes the captain's armband will help restore the midfielder's form and consistency.
"I think I’d stick with who we’ve got at the moment, he looks like he [Fernandes] feeds off that responsibility," Ferdinand told Vibe.
"I think when Bruno came here, he was the main man, a cult figure because of his performances and goals and that was kind of put in the shadows when Cristiano Ronaldo came. He’s come off the levels as much as anyone because he was hitting such high levels.

"Listen, the levels he was hitting he couldn’t continue that because it was ridiculous what he was doing, the output. But to drop off from where he was, he would benefit the most from getting the armband," he added.
