Cristiano Ronaldo will play no role when Manchester United take on rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Tuesday night, April 19.

The match comes at a time both teams are looking to end the season on a high, with United keen to secure a top-four finish.

However, the Red Devils will have to contend with the absence of Ronaldo for the Anfield trip in what will be a massive blow to Ralf Rangnick.

Why Cristiano Ronaldo will not travel to Anfield

Sports Brief understands Ronaldo has been granted a compassionate leave by United following the tragic death of his newborn son.

The Red Devils have since released an official statement in the wake of the unfortunate news, revealing the five-time Ballon d'Or has been allowed some time to heal.

"Family is more important than everything and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time," the club said in a statement.
"As such, we can confirm that he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening and we underline the family's request for privacy," the statement added.

Ronaldo announces death of his baby son

Ronaldo made the heartbreaking announcement of his son's death via his official Instagram account on Monday, April 18.

At the time, the Portuguese also announced the birth of a baby girl with his long-term partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

The power couple had been expecting twins and has since requested for privacy as they mourn their son.

Erik ten Hag gets green light to Antony for Man United

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Man United have reportedly given incoming manager Erik ten Hag the green light to sign Ajax star Antony.

Ten Hag is said to have agreed a three-year deal ahead of his Manchester United move to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Dutchman is believed to be keen to strengthen the right-wing position and has identified Ajax ace, Antony, as the ideal candidate.
