Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea blasted his team’s performance against Everton as ‘disgraceful’ as the Red Devils lost more ground in the race for a top-four finish.
There was little room for error for Manchester United against the relegation-threatened Toffees, especially after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Leicester City in their previous game.
But yet another drab performance saw United succumb to a 1-0 defeat, with Anthony Gordon’s strike in the 27th minute proving to be the difference.
After the match, De Gea was critical of his side for what he termed an ‘unaceptable’ performance.
"It is a disgrace from us, we should be winning this game. The Spaniard told BBC.
"We don’t score but we don’t create proper chances to score. We are not good enough, that is for sure. It will be difficult to be in the top four.
"They played Wednesday and they were tired but they had more desire than us, that is not acceptable.
"It's very sad to lose today."
United now stay stuck in seventh place, and Tottenham have the chance to edge away in fourth place when they take on Aston Villa in the other match.
De Gea is not the only Manchester United faithful to criticize his team for the poor performance.
Former United defender Gary Neville bluntly said on Twitter: "United a joke. Well done to Everton.”
United fans dismayed by Everton loss
As Sports Brief reported, United fans were also critical of the team, with a large number of them saying the season was practically over for their team.
United will certainly go another season without winning any silverware, and with games running out, it looks like a top four finish will be a huge ask, especially with Tottenham and Arsenal also chasing similar
