Paris Saint-Germain Mauricio Pochettino and his Ajax counterpart Erik ten Hag have widely been backed for the role, with the latter believed to be a frontrunner.
Luis Enrique backed as frontrunner
However, Express UK reports Enrique is now a genuine contender for the role despite his current attachment with the Spain national team.
According to the publication, United chiefs are considering their options as they look to hire a permanent manager this summer.
Whereas Ten Hag has been tipped as a frontrunner in recent weeks, Daily Mail claims Enrique has courted admirers at United as well.
It is understood a move for the Spaniard will be cheaper as the Red Devils would not have to pay ‘top dollar’ to land his services.

After a year with the Serie A side, the tactician took charge of Celta Vigo before Barcelona hired him for the top job in 2014.
