Gareth Southgate has broken down the exact reason he did not select Jadon Sancho for England’s upcoming friendlies.
Since the turn of the new year, Sancho has starred for Manchester United, and has been the club’s glimmer of hope at a time when the Red Devils are struggling to re-establish themselves as footballing giants in England.
For United, Sancho scored against Southampton as well as in the Manchester derby, and he also set up one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals against Tottenham on Saturday, March 12.
But despite his impressive form, Sancho was somehow overlooked by Gareth Southgate in a decision that left many confused.

In a press conference on Thursday, March 17, however, Southgate was happy to explain his decision, which he says boiled down to the availability of players who were ‘slightly ahead’ than Sancho at the moment.
"The other attacking players in the squad are slightly ahead of him in our feeling," he explained as quoted by Sport Bible.
"Jadon over the last few weeks his performances have improved but it’s an area of the field we’ve got big competition for places."
Making the England squad in the attacking places were the likes of Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe as well as the Manchester City trio of Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish,

FootballAnother Machester United player who was conspicuously absent from the England list was Marcus Rashford.
As reported by Sports Brief, Rashford was overlooked following a torrid run of form that has seen the 24-year old fall down the pecking order at Old Trafford under interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
Rashford has since flown out of the country to unwind and clear his head ahead of United’s next game which is not until 2 weeks.
