Ralf Rangnick reveals why Cristiano Ronaldo missed the Manchester derby
FootballManchester United Receive Triple Injury Boost Ahead of Tottenham Clash
- Manchester United will have a fairly decent squad to choose from ahead of the Tottenham clash
- Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani are back in contention to feature in the Old Trafford clash
- United need all three points to keep their hopes of securing a Champions League squad alive
Manchester United have received a triple injury boost ahead of their crunch match against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, March 12.
Edinson Cavani, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane are all back in contention to start, as confirmed by interim boss Ralf Rangnick on Friday.
Rangnick was on Friday quizzed on whether he had spoken to Cristiano Ronaldo about the Portuguese star’s trip to Portugal at the back of a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City, to which he replied:
"No, because it doesn't make sense to look back on what happened the last six or seven days. What is important is what happens today and tomorrow.”
Ronaldo missed the Manchester derby and it was reported that he was struggling with a hip flexor injury.
"For me, it doesn't make sense at all to go through all this. The important thing is he [Ronaldo] and Edi [Cavani] are both back in training and both are available for the game tomorrow." Rangnick went on, as quoted by Express.uk.
Varane is also back in contention after missing the derby with a bout of COVID-19.
A must-win for the Red Devils
As the fight for Champions League football intensifies, Manchester United are fast running out of room to make any mistakes in their remaining fixtures.
The Red Devils face Tottenham on Saturday, before welcoming Atletico Madrid for the Champions League second leg on Tuesday, March 15.
Rangnick’s side is currently one point behind Arsenal, who occupy the final Champions League spot, with the Gunners having played three games less than their fifth-placed counterparts.

Rangnick on Ronaldo's situation
Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported about how Ralf Rangnick played down questions on whether he confronted Cristiano Ronaldo for jetting off to Portugal.
Rangnick clarified that no conversation was had with Ronaldo, although the 37-year old was fit enough to play against Spurs.
Ronaldo himself shared an image on Instagram, strongly hinting that he was eager to get back on the pitch.
