  • Jadon Sancho has apologised for his side's shambolic display against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium
  • Sancho's Manchester United was thumped by their city rivals on Sunday as Pep Guardiola's charges stretched their lead at the summit of the league table
  • Since the embarrassing defeat to their neighbours, players of the Red Devils have been subject to huge criticism

Despite winning twice in their last five games prior to the game, Manchester United went into the derby all pomped up owing to their recent head to head record against their neighbours.

United had won three of the last four derbies at the Etihad. However, an inspired Manchester City buoyed by Kevin De Bruyne run United ragged.

A decent first-half display from the red half of Manchester was followed by a listless output in the second stanza with the Red Devils failing to muster a shot on target.

Perhaps, Sancho and to some extent Anthony Elanga were the only players in red who could be pardoned for the sorry team display.

A brace each from De Bruyne and Algerian skipper Riyad Mahrez thwarted the efforts of Jadon Sancho as the Citizens run out 4-1 victors.

The results infuriated most United faithful and football pundits as well with ex-United captain Roy Keane calling the players out for a bad day out.

What was Sancho's apology about

Owing up to the shameful display, the 21-year-old former Borussia Dortmund attacker apologised for his side's spiritless performance.

In a post by the England international on Twitter, he admitted the players' output was not good enough but he was quick to note they will press on as the team fights for Champions League places.

"Apologies to the fans… It’s not good enough. We [players] have to look at ourselves as players and work hard to make things right. We will keep on fighting." Sancho wrote on Twitter.

Manchester legend Roy Keane slams United players after sorry performance against City

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Roy Keane says Manchester United players threw in the towel too early as the Red Devils were mercilessly beaten by Manchester City in the Manchester Derby Mirror reports.

Two goals each from Kevin de Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez condemned United to another horrific defeat at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, March 6.

Despite Jadon Sancho levelling for United in the first-half cancelling out Kevin de Bruyne's first strike, United struggled to keep pace with a City side bent on cementing their lead at the top.
