Man United hijack move for Ronaldo when the Portuguese looked likely to join City

Recall that Cristiano Ronaldo had been strongly linked with a Man City switch back in August, but Man United moved swiftly to hijack the deal.

Now 64-year-old Barnes, who is one of just 34 players in history to play for both Manchester clubs said: "His goal record is great for a 37-year-old, but I think if he had come to City, he'd probably have 25 goals now, because the good players there would have found him a lot easier.'
"They would have had the vision and the technique to put him in, whereas I think some of the players at United simply don't have that vision to put him in on goal."

Ronaldo's stats at the Man United this season

Ronaldo has managed nine goals in 23 Premier League appearances this season, netting just once in his last eight Premier League outings.

He has however fared better in the Champions League, however, bagging six in six European games this term.

Manchester United are currently fourth in the table, 19 points behind leaders City.

Panic as Ronaldo among 4 Man United stars absent from squad hours before Manchester Derby

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Cristiano Ronaldo is a major doubt for Man United's clash with rivals City set for Sunday, March 6, at the Etihad Stadium.

Reports suggest the Portuguese was missing from the team that assembled on Saturday evening in preparations for the Manchester derby.

United's 21-man squad reported to The Lowry Hotel on the eve of the clash but the five-time Ballon d'Or was conspicuously absent from the squad.

Incredibly, Ronaldo was not the only absentee at the hotel, with Edison Cavani also not making part of the team.

The defensive duo of Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw was also not in sight at The Lowry Hotel.

Balotelli compares himself to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Meanwhile, Sports Brief also reported that Mario Balotelli certainly feels he is amongst the best players in the history of football as the striker claims he is on the level of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The former Manchester City had a blistering career in his early years as he was signed to Inter Milan at the age of just 17.

And according to reports, Balotelli admitted he has some aspects to work on in his game but is 100 percent certain he is as good as Messi and Ronaldo.
