Manchester United were once again left frustrated at Old Trafford as a bright Southampton battled to a 1-1 draw in the early kick-off on Saturday, February 12.
As they did against Burnley, United took a first-half lead as Jadon Sancho benefited from a crisp Marcus Rashford cross after some good work from Bruno Fernandes.
Rashford escaped behind the Saints defence after a ball over the top from Fernandes, before picking out Sancho with a low cross for the former Borussia Dortmund man to grab his first league goal of the season.
Before Sancho’s goal, Cristiano Ronaldo had the chance to grab the lead for his side as he rounded Fraser Foster in the seventh minute but his tame finish was cleared off the line by a Southampton defender.
The Red Devils were impressive in the first half, particularly on the counter-attack, and Paul Pogba also found the back of the net at the stroke of halftime but his goal was ruled out for offside.
United were eventually made to pay for failing to consolidate their lead as Southampton, who had shown glimpses of threat in the first half, found the equaliser before the teams could settle for the second period.
Che Adams managed to stay onside to slot home a goal that went in through the inside of the post to set up an interesting first half.
The goal lifted the spirits of Ralph Hasenhuttl's men, while for United, there was a sense of nervousness after allowing a lead to slip for the third game in a row.

Southampton arguably had the better chances in the second half, with Armando Broja forcing a good save fro David de Gea, while Stuart Armstrong blazed over from a promising position.
Cristiano Ronaldo would go on to find the net from a Bruno Fernandes free kick, but his goal was instantly chopped off for offside.
Despite the introduction of Anthony Elanga and Jesse Lingard, United could not find an equaliser, as Ralf Rangnick’s side ended another miserable week with more dropped points.
"Someone cursed us"
Prior to the match, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea sensationally suggested that perhaps someone had cursed the club.
De Gea spoke to Spanish outlet El Pais, where he boldly said he did not understand why the club was struggling to click.
With the exemption of Cristiano Ronaldo, he is the only one who knows what it is like to win the league with Manchester United.
