The Red Devils are enduring yet another average campaign so far, and in the last week, they have suffered an exit from the FA Cup and a frustrating 1-1 draw in the Premier League against bottom-placed Burnley.
They were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the third round and currently lie sixth in the Premier League, with the possibility of finishing outside the top four all too real at the moment.
Speaking to Spanish outlet El Pais, De Gea, who has been one of the better performers at United this season, said:
“I think someone has put a curse on us or something. The truth is I don’t know what’s going on, I really don’t.
United had a very positive transfer window in the summer, bringing in the likes of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.
“People always ask me and we talk about it as team-mates and we just say ‘we don’t know what’s happening,” De Gea went on.
“We should have competed for more trophies, bigger titles, but I just don’t know why this team doesn’t function.”
De Gea, who leads the league in terms of saves made (with 97 – 13), played under Sir Alex Ferguson in the Scotland international’s final two years, winning the league title in 2013.

FootballWith the exemption of Cristiano Ronaldo, he is the only one who knows what it is like to win the league with Manchester United.
“Teams create a lot of chances against us. But that’s what I’m here for: trying to stop goals, help the team however I can and this year things are going well in that regard.
“Rangnick wants us to be intense, to always press and be on the front foot.”
