FootballConcerns for 37-Year-Old Ronaldo As Goal Drought Extends to 5 Club Games for the First Time Since 2010
- Cristiano Ronaldo came on as a substitute in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with bottom table side Burnley
- The Portuguese sensation who recently clocked 37 failed to find the back of the net in the encounter as his goal drought extends to five club games
- It is the first time the striker had failed to get a goal in five matches since his early years at Spanish club Real Madrid
For the first time in about twelve years, Portuguese sensation Cristiano Ronaldo has failed to score in five consecutive club games and there are concerns.
The Manchester United striker who clocked 37 on February 5 came off the bench against Burnley, but could not find the back of the net as it ended 1-1.
Cristiano Ronaldo started the game on the bench, with Rangnick starting Edinson Cavani, who was back in the side following an extended break.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner had a glorious opportunity to give his side the winner in the last seconds of the game, but his header went above the crossbar.
Ronaldo’s struggles in the Premier League continue, despite that his side faced the team at the bottom of the table.
SI reports that he has failed to score against Wolverhampton, Brentford, West Ham and Middlesbrough.
It's his five-game drought in club football since 2010, when he played for Real Madrid and failed to score against Malaga to close the 2009-2010 season and then Mallorca, Osasuna, Ajax and Real Sociedad to open 2010-11.
That a drought like that hadn't happened since then speaks to the dominance and consistency of the player over such an extended period of time.
Man Utd’s top-four hopes hang in the balance
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s hopes for a top-four finish took a stumble as they were frustrated to a 1-1 draw by bottom-side Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday, February 8.
Paul Pogba’s first-half goal was cancelled out by Jay Rodriguez’s clever finish past David De Gea two minutes after halftime.
