Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that defender Victor Lindelof will miss the Premier League encounter against West Ham for personal reasons.
Lindelof’s family was recently subjected to a harrowing experience after their family home was raided and burgled.
The Swedish defender’s wife Maja Nilsson-Lindelof, was at home with the couple’s two sons at the time of incident, which happened on Wednesday, January 19.
Lindelof, at the time was on duty in London for United, who emerged 3-1 winners against Brentford.
According to Manchester Evening News, Rangnick broke down the events of Wednesday to Lindelof during their flight back to Manchester.
Upon further discussions on Friday, it was agreed that Lindelof would sit out home game against West Ham to be with his family.
"I spoke with him at length on our flight back home from London and also this morning," Rangnick explained. "We spoke for 20 or 25 minutes, he told me what actually happened, that this was a traumatic event, especially for his wife and three-year-old son,
"He said to me right now he needs to stay at home, he doesn't want to leave his wife and family on their own, which I can fully understand, being a father of two children myself.
"We agreed he will not be on duty tomorrow for the game."
What Lindelof’s wife said on Instagram
Maja, Lindelof’s wife, took to Instagram to make public the harrowing ordeal.
In her Instagram page, she wrote:
"During Victor's game this Wednesday night we had a break-in at our house in Manchester. I was home alone with both the kids but we managed to hide and lock ourselves in a room before they entered our house.

Football"We are okay under the circumstances, but it was obviously a very traumatic and scary moment for both me and my little kids.
"We are now in Sweden and are spending some time off with our families.
"Love, Maja."
This marked another episode of misfortune for Lindelof, who suffered an episode while on duty at Norwich last month and had to wear a heart monitor.
He was also recently diagnosed with COVID-19 and had just come out of isolation and was reintegrating back to the squad.
