United currently find themselves in seventh position on the log, and after Westham saw off Norwich City on Wednesday, the Red Devils are now six points off the top four places.

The entry of Ralf Rangnick to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to have steadied the ship a little, with United only conceding three goals and winning four in seven matches.

But there were hints of an underlying problem once again on January 3, when United somehow succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Wolves at Old Trafford in a game which they were second best for large parts.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Cristiano spoke on his side’s ambitions, saying the club should be in third place at worst.

“As I said Manchester United should win the league or be in second or third,” he said.
“I don’t see other positions for Manchester United to be honest. In my eyes, I don’t accept that our mentality should be less than the top three,”

We are capable of changing things now. I don’t know the specific way and I’m not going to mention here because it is not ethical but all I can say is we (players) can do better, all of us,”

Ronaldo also admitted his side are not at their best at the moment, and there was an urgent need to improve.

In truth, United’s performances under Rangnick have been a bit underwhelming, with the side only scoring more than one goal on one occasion since the German’s arrival.

One competition United can try to salvage their season with is the FA Cup as they recently edged Aston Villa to proceed to the fourth round.
