Manchester City striker Erling Haaland was unheard from during his side's clash at Anfield on Sunday, October 16.

Haaland has enjoyed a stunning start to life since he joined City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

The Norwegian youngster has scored an eyewatering 20 goals across competitions, with 15 of those coming in the Premier League.

Indeed, the 22-year-old has scored in each of the 10 Premier League appearances he has made in a City shirt, except on two occasions.

His appearance against Liverpool was one such time he did not score in the English top flight.

According to fans, the credit for shutting out Haaland at Anfield belongs to Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

Fans contend the Netherlands international did a good job keeping the Norwegian star at bay.

One Twitter user posted:

"Van Dijk is in the worst form of his Liverpool career and he had Haaland in his pocket throughout the whole game."

A second reckoned:

"These type of strikers are cake for Virgil van Dijk. Now take Haaland out of your pocket bro that's enough."

Another added:

"My GOAT Van Dijk rolled it back and dropped an all-time classic performance to pocket Haaland again. The streak goes on."

A fourth joked:

"Erling Haaland won't be playing the next PL game on account of being in Virgil van Dijk's back pocket."

Meanwhile, Haaland will be hoping to return to the scoresheet next Saturday, October 22, when Man City take on Brighton in the Premier League.

Haaland names his childhood heroes

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Manchester City marksman Erling Haaland has named Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mario Balotelli as two of his childhood heroes growing up.

Haaland is currently the talk of the town owing to his impressive performances since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

He has been so impressive in fact, that he is well on course to win the Premier League golden boot in his debut season.
