FootballPep Guardiola ‘Threatens’ Not to Play Ilkay Gundogan Again After Wife Indirectly Complains of Pep’s Restaurant
- Ilkay Gundogan's wife's comments about restaurants in Manchester have rubbed a popular owner the wrong way
- Gundogan's manager, Pep Guardiola has joked that he won't play his captain again after his wife's comments
- Guardiola is one of the restaurant owners in Manchester who were given negative reviews by Gundogan's wife
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has joked that he won't play his captain Ilkay Gundogan again, after his wife made some disparaging comments about Manchester restaurants.
Gundogan's wife, Sara Arfaoui was on the receiving end of widespread backlash after saying that Manchester had no good restaurants.
Givemesport reports that Sara was responding to a fan on Instagram when she said:
"I tried so bad to find a good restaurant, but horrible food was everywhere. Can’t find a real Italian or good sushi or just fresh food… everywhere frozen."

"Restaurants here are focused on making money with drinks and shots like nightclubs – not quality food. Maybe in London but in Manchester, nothing. I’m sorry."
Guardiola was then asked to wade into the discussion, given that the City boss is a part-owner of a tapas restaurant in Manchester.
"Gundo is not going to play one more minute for the rest of the season," he joked. "I’m going to invite her and Gundogan to Tast [his restaurant] and of course, they are going to eat properly."
Gundogan was left on the bench afterwards
The Spanish head coach was definitely joking, but one couldn't help but notice that Gundogan was an unused substitute during City's emphatic 4-0 win over Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
Guardiola could be looking at squad rotation with many fixtures coming in thick and fast over a short period. Gundogan took over as the club captain following the exit of Fernandinho at the end of last season.

FootballPep Guardiola jokes after Erling Haaland fails to score a hat-trick against Southampton
Sports Brief had earlier reported that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola joked that he was upset with his striker Erling Haaland, after their Premier League clash against Southampton on October 8th.
Guardiola was left disappointed after Haaland scored only once, as City leapfrogged Arsenal - albeit momentarily - to the summit of the Premier League table.
The Spanish tactician hoped Haaland would keep up his scintillating form of scoring hat-tricks in the clash against the Saints.
