Haaland was drafted into the starting XI as his new side kicked off their Premier League title defence against West Ham United on Sunday, August 7.

Fortunately for the ex-Dortmund hotshot, he made a mark in his bow for the Citizens as he netted a brace to guide his side to a 2-0 win over the Hammers.

While many felt it was a dream debut for Haaland, the City attacker believes he should have actually scored a hat-trick.

"I should have been there so a bit s*** but that's how it is," Haaland told Sky Sports while discussing an Ilkay Gundogan cross he could have met for a Premier League debut hat-trick.

Haaland's strong mentality saw him compared with Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi.

According to Guardiola, Haaland's performance reminded him of Messi, with the City boss noting that a goalscorer is never satisfied when he could have scored more for his team.

"I was fortunate as a manager to be with Messi and if he scored two, he wanted three. If he scored three, he wanted four," Pep said as quoted by Daily Mail.

"The top goalscorers, the strikers, they are never satisfied. They are always starving," he added.

Erling Haaland breaks goalscoring duck for Man City on Premier League debut

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that new Manchester City striker Erling-Braut Haaland is up and running as he broke his goalscoring duck in a competitive game since his arrival this summer.

Exactly eight days after Man City's loss to Liverpool in the traditional Premier League curtain-raiser, Community Shield, Haaland was singled out for criticism after he missed gilt-edge opportunities in the fixture.

The former Dortmund marksman missed a golden opportunity at the death of the game to reduce the deficit for the Cityzens as Liverpool snatched the first silverware of the season.
