For Liverpool, their new signing Darwin Nunez experienced contrasting fortunes to Haaland as he was on the scoresheet in the 3-1 win.
The game was played at the King Power Stadium, instead of the traditional Wembley, which will host Sunday's Women's Euros final.
Trent Alexander-Arnold opened the scoring with a delightful curling effort but City were back level in the second half through Julian Alvarez.
With eight minutes remaining, Mohammed Salah scored from the penalty spot, and Nunez wrapped up the scoring late on with a header from close range.
