It was a final day of drama in the English Premier League as Leeds United ensured they will be playing in England’s top flight next season after a hard-fought win against Brentford.

Leeds United were tied on points with Burnley heading into the final matchday and needed to better the results of the Clarets to retain their premier league status.

Raphinha sent Brentford’s goalkeeper, David Raya the wrong way from the spot to give Leeds a crucial lead in the second half after both teams couldn’t find a goal in the first 45 minutes.

Sergi Canos equalized for Brentford in the 78th minute to cause a tense finale for the away side but Jack Harrison ensured Leeds United’s Premier League safety after grabbing a crucial late winner.

With Burnley losing 1-0 to Newcastle United after Callum Wilson converted a first-half penalty at Turf Moor to give the Magpies a deserved win, Leeds Premier League safety were confirmed.

Burnley back to the Championship for the first time since 2016

Burnley has been officially relegated from the English Premier League for the first time since the 2015/16 season The Athletic reports.

The Clarets needed a win against Newcastle United and hoped Leeds United drop points away at Brentford to retain their Premier League status but were left disappointed after a 1-0 loss to the Magpies.

Burnley will join Watford and Norwich City in the Championship next season, who were relegated earlier this month.
