The Premier League Champions are well on course to qualify for the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition as goals from Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden secured the Citizens’ biggest margin of victory in a Champions League knockout game.
Ronaldo’s mother Dolores will surely have left the stadium in low spirits, especially after seeing the club that helped mold his son be demolished.
Dolores and the entire family are avid supporters of Sporting CP ever since Ronaldo joined the club’s academy in 1997 as a 12-year old.
Ronaldo went on to establish himself as a first-team player at Sporting and it was during a game against Manchester United in 2003 that Sir Alex Ferguson spotted his potential.
He would go on to sign for United in 2003, spending six successful years before departing for Real Madrid.
Despite playing for three different clubs since leaving Sporting in 2003, Ronaldo still has a soft spot for the Portuguese club, and has been tipped to make a sensational return before he retires.
Ronaldo back amongst the goals
Despite the horrible result in Portugal, Dolores will take comfort in the fact that her son has finally broken his goal drought.
