Former Manchester City ace Sergio Aguero recently joked that he is ‘ironman’ after he was forced to retire from football last year with a heart condition.
In late 2021, Aguero had only just recovered from injury and was on course to start establishing himself at his new club Barcelona, when misfortune struck.
During a clash against Alaves, the Argentine had to be substituted after going down on the pitch while clutching his chest.
He was then rushed to hospital and ruled out of football for three months as medics conducted more tests on him.
Days later and Aguero would make the heartbreaking announcement – that he was unwillingly calling it quits on his football career.
“I was initially calm”
Aguero recently reflected on the incident during the Alaves game, revealing he was calm and collected at first when he was first rushed to hospital.
"When it happened, I thought it was nothing and that it was going to be fine. But when I got to the hospital and they left me in a small room alone with a bunch of monitors around me, I realized something was wrong,” Aguero said on his Twitch channel, via 20 minutes.
"And after two days in the hospital, I started to get nervous."
The Argentine, who won five Premier League titles during his time at Manchester City, also shared with his fans that he had a chip fitted on his chest to help monitor his heart. The chip alerts doctors if his heart starts acting up again.

Football"I have a chip here [his chest]. At night I throw coloured lights, I'm Ironman!” Aguero joked.
"I have a chip, crazy, I'm straight. And if it speeds up, it jumps to the doctor."
In his career, Aguero established himself as one of the top strikers in football and the Premier League.
He found the net a total of 379 times throughout his career, which he began aged only 16.
Aguero’s fishing trip
Recently, Sports Brief reported of how Aguero was making the most out of his life after retiring from football.
He was recently out on a fishing expedition alongside some friends in the Argentinian province of Corrientes – the birth place of the late Diego Maradona’s parents.
In the photos and videos shared on his Instagram, Aguero seems to not have a care in the world as he enjoys the day out with his friends.
