  • Benni McCarthy masterminded a famous victory as AmaZulu stunned a seemingly unbeatable Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 in the DStv Premiership
  • Masandawana went into the match having not lost a game all season, an impressive 17-match unbeaten streak
  • Some on social seemed to have drank a lot of 'Haterade', while others expressed their pleasure at the result and his comments

The fallout continues as Mzansi tries to wrap its head around how AmaZulu halted the seemingly unstoppable Mamelodi Sundowns train its tracks. Benni McCarthy, the excitable and occasionally foul-mouthed coach of Amazulu, masterminded a 1-0 victory for Usuthu over Masandawana on Monday night in the DStv Premiership.

It was Sundown's first loss in what seemed like forever - 17 games to be exact - proving that AmaZulu finishing as runners-up to the Tshwane-based team was no fluke.

McCarthy cheekily stated on television that Sundowns wouldn't go unbeaten on his watch, lauding his players for a composed and determined performance.

He said:

"It was important for everyone to have contributed to today’s win. It’s not an individual sport and we always count on every player. Once you get the opportunity to play, we expect you to do your best and give more for the team at all costs. Today everyone was present."

Sundowns are still comfortably leading a one-horse race, leading second place Orlando Pirates by a whopping 16 points. They can conceivably win the league title by February next year, a whole three months before the season concludes in May.

Social media was still aflutter about the shock result.

"Most people think Sundowns is the best team. No! Sundowns weakens the opposition by buying all their best players. Sundowns have a player from nearly all teams in the PSL."

@KhayaM8 said:

"Coach Benni must be given that Coach of the Season award for beating Sundowns."

@Venile69 said:

"Benni McCarthy must win silverware before opening his mouth. Doesn't help you win one or two, draw most of your games, and closest you get to a cup is Mugg & Bean..."

"He talks too much that one, but is yet to win a single cup-nyana win at Amazulu after promising the league last season..."

Proteas geared up for India challenge despite Cricket SA racism allegations

The South Africa senior national men's cricket team are ready to put in a firm challenge when facing India in a three-match Test series starting at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Boxing Day.

Competitive action for the Proteas on home soil comes at a time when allegations of racism against Cricket South Africa (CSA) director of cricket and former Proteas Test skipper Graeme Smith are running rampant.

As reported by Sports Brief, this comes after the Social Justice Network (SJN) released an explosive report into alleged racial discrimination in the local game.
