His daughter, actress Asavela Mnqokiyana (nee Mngqithi), alleged that he was absent while she was growing up, which made front-page news.
According to the Daily Sun, Mngqithi has responded by saying:
“From day 1, I took care of Asavela and I paid damages to her family which is why she used my surname…when she was 14, she lived with me. I paid for her school fees from primary until tertiary."

Isibaya actress Asavela Mnqokiyana accuses Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi of being a 'deadbeat' dad
Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi is having a bad weekend.
As reported by Sports Brief, he had to eat his words after the club was defeated by SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership. However, earlier that day, his daughter Asavela Mnqokiyana (nee Mngqithi) embarrassed him on Twitter.
According to The Citizen, the Isibaya actress tweeted:
“Whatever I have/will still achieve, never credit all my hard work to Manqoba Mngqithi and his money. Ngihluphekile, ngaphumelela engekho (I suffered financially until I made it without his support). If you have an opinion or inkinga ngicela uyidle (if you have a problem with that, just eat it). Love and light I guess.”
She recently got married, but as is tradition, her father was not there to give her away. Her actions have been described as unnecessary considering how Mngqithi is a respected figure in local football whose private life is never in the headlines.
