BoxingEgyptian Giants Al Ahly Part Ways With Coach Pitso Mosimane After Less Than Two Years in the Job
- In shocking but ultimately unsurprising news, Egyptian superclub Al Ahly has parted ways with their South African coach Pitso Mosimane
- Mosimane had come under increasing pressure in recent months from sections of the club's former players
- It appears that the CAF Champions League final loss was the final straw for the 57-year-old, ending a successful partnership with the Cairo-based club
In a bombshell of note, Al Ahly and Pitso Mosimane are no longer in union.
The club announced earlier that it had agreed with the 57-year-old Mosimane for the termination of his contract. Samy Komsan will take over in an interim capacity until a permanent coach is found to replace Mosimane.
The Red Devils said on their Twitter account:
"Al Ahly and Pitso Mosimane reached an agreement to part ways with Yassin Mansour, the chairman of Al Ahly Football Company, Hossam Ghaly, the club's board member, and the planning committee members, to discuss Mosimane's future with the club.
During the meeting, they all decided that he should continue his mission with Al Ahly as a result of the previous achievements he managed to accomplish during the previous period. However, during the meeting that was previous held, Mosimane requested to leave and that he is satisfied with the achievements he managed to accomplish with the club."
After revealing that Mosimane's decision was discussed and later approved, the statement thanked Mosimane for his achievements with the club. These included, two CAF Champions League titles, two African Super Cups, an Egyptian Cup and a bronze medal at the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup.
Despite all of this, Mosimane had come under pressure in recent times from former Al Ahly players, whether it was his style of coaching or defeats in the Egyptian Premier League and in the Champions League final against Wydad Casablanca, as per Soccer Laduma.
