The history-chasing Peter Shalulile has entered an elite company at Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to Soccer Laduma, this put him in the '50 Club' alongside Daniel Mudau, Raphael Chukwu, Katlego Mphela and Themba Zwane for the club that was established in the 1960s.

Shalulile is also chasing history this season. He scored his 22nd league goal of the season, leaving him three short of Collins Mbesuma's record of 25 that he set in the 2004/05 campaign, with three league matches to go.

Furthermore, he is on 28 goals across all competitions. Mbesuma scored a Premier Soccer League-era record of 35 goals in the aforementioned season. Including the remaining league matches and the Nedbank Cup final against Marumo Gallants on 28 May, he has four matches to either tie with or break the record.

According to Transfermarkt, Shalulile had scored 44 times in 117 matches for Highlands Park in the five years he had been there from 2015 to 2020.

Mamelodi Sundown's juggernaut continued despite having already been crowned the 2021/22 DStv Premiership champions.

As reported by Sports Brief, a wonder strike by Aubrey Modiba put the Brazilians in the 28th minute of the match. Peter Shalulile then put the match beyond doubt with a typical snipe in the second minute of added in the second half.

Shalulile's goal was his 22nd of the season, moving to within three of the record that Collins Mbesuma set in the 2004/05 season in the colours of Kaizer Chiefs.
