Football fans are still celebrating the news that supporters can finally return to stadiums after two years.
Football games in the country were played without fans in attendance due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but are now allowed to have fans filling 50% capacity of the stadiums.
Mamelodi Sundowns are the first South African team to play a home game following the announcement, as they host Al Merrikh in a CAF Champions League encounter. Sundowns will host the Sudanese side at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 2 April.
With Sundowns already having qualified for the quarter-final stage, the club have decided to reward their fans, The South African reported. Sundowns top Group A and cannot be dethroned from the top spot.
To honour their fans, Masandawana announced that they will be giving away free tickets for the CAF Champions League game. The club confirmed that the free tickets would be able to fans who could prove that they were vaccinated or were Covid-19 free. Children under the age of 12 will also gain free entry with no vaccination certificate required.
Sundowns also made the announcement on their official Twitter account, providing more information on how fans could acquire the free tickets.

In order to gain entry into stadiums, spectators will have to show a vaccination certificate at the gate or show that they have tested negative for Covid-19 no older than 72 hours, Sports Brief earlier reported.
Those attending matches will also be required to produce identification documents, as the PSL confirmed that they would follow strict protocols for the return of supporters to stadiums.
As reported in Soccer Laduma, those going to stadiums must also bring their IDs with them. Only up to 50 percent of the venue's capacity of the stadium can be filled until further notice.
