Ethiopian striking sensation, Abubeker Nassir could soon become a Mamelodi Sundowns player after could concluding a trial at the Pretoria club.
The 21-year-old has been described as the golden boy of East African football and has won the Most Valuable Player and Best Young Player awards in the Ethiopian League, Goal.Com confirmed.
Nassir was also part of the Ethiopian side that represented their country at AFCON 2021. Ethiopia finished at the bottom of their group with one point after drawing with Burkina Faso.
He is also believed to have impressed the technical team at Mamelodi Sundowns while on trial with the club, KickOff reported. Abubeker could sign with the Brazilians before the transfer window closes at midnight on 31 January.
"The boy has made a huge impression. Sundowns are currently engaged in a meeting to discuss the possibility of signing him.
"There is also the possibility of signing him now and loaning him back to his club in Ethiopia until the end of the season,” the KickOff article is quoted as saying.
In a further blow to Kaizer Chiefs fans, it’s also understood that the Amakhosi were interested in signing Nassir but that he chose Sundown instead.
If he signs for Sundowns, he would become the second player this year to snub Chiefs in favour of the Brazilians after Teboho Mokoena also made the move to Pretoria over Soweto.
